WESTPORT–Staples field hockey had a trio of statement wins, each with a significantly different scoring spread, over the past week. The Wreckers blasted host St. Joseph 10-0 on Wednesday, proved a thing or five (as in a handful of freshmen playing against five college recruits) in a 4-2 win at Wilton on Saturday and then blanked Stamford 7-0 yesterday.
The Wreckers, bolstered by their youth, also leaned on their depth with Division I recruit Leah Larit (headed to Northwestern) sidelined with illness.
One of those first-year standouts, Lila Manning, scored twice, Daisy Hackett had a goal and two assists, and Izzie Schmeiser (another fantastic freshman) scored in the win. Wilton (8-2-0-1) is ranked fourth in both the FCIAC and Class M state rankings. Staples (8-3) is tied for second in the FCIAC and is third in Class L.
In the St. Joseph game, Ava Pattinson, Hackett and Lucy Hill each netted two goals. Schmeiser, Stella DiGeronimo, Emile Russell and Oakley Wilson all had goals.
Chloe Smith assisted on a pair of goals and Quinn Lopatin, DiGeronimo,
Russell and Hackett all had assists.
Staples hosted Stamford Monday and kept up its winning ways in a 7-0 victory. Hackett and Smith both scored twice and DiGeronimo, Pattinson and Manning also scored.
