To the editor:

Ceci Maher has excelled as a state senator representing the 26th District.

I met Ceci when she was contemplating running for that seat in 2021. She had an impressive background leading some local non-profits, including as CEO of Person-to-Person which provided food to those in need across lower Fairfield County.

Between growing up in Stamford and living in Wilton, working in New Canaan and Darien, she had deep connections to many of the towns she now serves.

Since Ceci was elected two years ago, it has become clear that her capabilities are well suited for the Connecticut Senate. As a resident who has lived in Westport for 29 years, who has volunteered for our schools and other local organizations and has in more recent years focused on the environment and environmental health, I believe Ceci has represented our values well.

A few of the efforts which Ceci helped to spearhead that I particularly appreciated are:

  • $2.5 million for drainage and facilities improvements at Sherwood Island State Park.
  • Established a green jobs corps program to outline a talent development strategy, help communities respond to climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
  • A $200,000 planning grant for the Georgetown neighborhood, with a specific focus on the revitalization and redevelopment of the former Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill brownfield site.
  • $20,000 for student proposal to purchase dishwasher and utensils at Wilton High School to increase sustainability and support student led efforts.
  • A $521,300 grant to Aspetuck Land Trust from the state’s Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant Program for the preservation of 20.76 acres of land.

I urge you to vote for Ceci Maher so she can continue doing great work for the 26th District!
