WESTPORT — Ben Casparius, a 2017 Staples High School graduate, had “nothing” to show after taking the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the New York Mets in Sunday’s game one of the National League Championship Series.

No hits, no runs were given up by Casparius in a 1-2-3 inning to close out the home-standing Dodgers’ 9-0 victory over the Mets.

Casparius’s debut post-season performance also helped the Dodgers pitching staff reach the brink of baseball history by notching their 33rd consecutive scoreless inning — a record set by the Baltimore Orioles in 1966.

At Staples, Casparius played both varsity baseball and basketball for the Wreckers.
