Following is the obituary for STEVEN MICHAEL LEWINE, submitted by his family.
________________________________
Steven Michael Lewine died peacefully in the early-morning hours of Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the age of 67.
He had been diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) just ten days earlier, and spent that time surrounded by his many loved ones. His sudden loss has been deeply felt by his friends and family across the country and the world.
Whether you knew him for a day or your entire life, you would know that Steve was all about love, family and making the world a better place. He believed that life is meant to be lived, and he made a point to celebrate every day, including being the first to raise his glass for a toast or hit the dance floor with his signature moves.
He believed in the power of education and travel to broaden our horizons, considering himself a citizen of the world and relishing the opportunity to expose people to their “first” time trying something new. He believed in the power of connections, and did his best to relate to every person he met — in their native language whenever possible — as well as putting love in the center of his family.
Most of all, Steve was passionate about helping others make their dreams come true, and he worked tirelessly and generously throughout his life to encourage and facilitate the dreams of his extended family, his clients, colleagues and friends, and the many communities that he encountered through service.
Steve was born on Feb. 15, 1958, and grew up in Great Neck, Long Island, as the oldest of five siblings.
At age 15, he was hit by a truck while walking to school and spent several weeks in a full body cast. The doctors told him his survival was due to strength and luck; he often referred back to this experience to tap into his deep well of resilience and optimism (and to attend hundreds of Orange Theory classes).
He became the first person in his family to go to college and studied Spanish and business in New York, Mexico, Canada, Arizona and Spain, eventually earning two master’s degrees.
He married Blandine Lewine (Albert-Lebrun) in 1984 and together they raised three wonderful children: Chris, Nico and Gabby. He had a successful career in investment banking, working across Latin America and spending five years living with his family in São Paulo, Brazil.
In 2013, he married Julie Lewine (Wright) and together they built a life full of joy, energy, family and friends between Westport and The Woodlands, Texas.
Over the past two decades, he built a second career as a financial advisor, helping his team be named as one of the top in the state of Connecticut. In 2021, he endowed the Lewine Global Engagement Fund at his alma mater, SUNY Brockport, to facilitate international experiences like the ones that shaped him.
Among his many affiliations and causes, he was especially passionate about the Rotary Club, through which he organized significant fundraising and executed multiple service trips to schools and other nonprofit organizations in Guatemala and Nicaragua.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Julie Lewine; their children, Chris Lewine (Natalie), Nico Lewine (Pallavi), Gabby Lewine (Jimmy), Cara Miller (Cory) and Cody Wright (Laura), and their grandchildren, Leonardo, Jaya, Isabelle and Owen. He also is survived by three siblings, Julie, Bob and Barbara. Among many loving and meaningful family relationships, Steve was also a father figure to his late brother Danny’s eldest daughter, Patricia Lewine (Jason), and was proud to count her daughter Rosalie among his grandchildren.
There will be two events to honor Steve on Thursday, May 29: a memorial service at the Saugatuck Congregational Church in Westport at 2 p.m., and a celebration of life at the Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk from 5 to 7 p.m. Those who knew Steve are warmly invited to attend either or both events.
In lieu of flowers, our grieving family asks that you consider a donation to the CJD Foundation, which helps patients and their families navigate ordeals like ours and helps fund medical research to better understand and fight this terrible disease.
