WESTPORT — Dogs who look like their owners. Canines who croon. Pooches who can pucker up with the best of them. And Rovers who run like the wind through an obstacle course.

Dogs of all kinds, doing all kinds of doggie things, will have their day at the 9th annual “Westport Dog Festival,” set 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Winslow Park, corner of Post Road East and Compo Road North. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to Sunday, June 1.
And this year, the festival won’t be devoted entirely to celebrating canines and their human companions, as “Gilbert, the party pig” and porcine friends also will be on hand to greet visitors.
“This festival will be a great day for the family. It’s a three-ring circus of activities that will celebrate everything dog, so bring yours,” Matthew Mandell, the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce executive director, said in a statement announcing the event. The chamber produces the festival in association with TAILS, a nonprofit that promotes spay/neutering of animals.
Entry fee is $10 per person, $30 for a family of four. Festival proceeds, which benefit nonprofit organizations, over the years total $45,000.
Westport Dog Festival highlights will include canine competitions in a range of categories including an obstacle course, police K9 demonstration, animal adoptions, vendors with dog-related products and services, children’s activities, food trucks and more.
