WESTPORT — “StoryFest ’24,” the Westport Library’s annual celebration of writing and those who do it, continued Saturday with several highlights, including a tribute to the legacy of a Westport literary lion.

A midday ceremony honored the late Sybil Steinberg, longtime editor and critic for Publishers Weekly, known locally for her annual “Sybil’s List” of recommended reading at the Westport Library. She died at age 90 in March.

Steinberg, who interviewed many well-known writers over the course of her career, was nominated for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. She edited three volumes of interviews compiled from the magazine, and also served on the board of the National Book Critics Circle.

A sale of books from Steinberg’s personal collection of advance copies, first editions and volumes signed by their writers was planned in conjunction with the ceremony. Proceeds from the book sale benefited StoryFest.

Alejandro Puyana, who received this year’s “Westport Prize for Literature” for his novel, “Freedom is a Feast,” speaks to StoryFest on Saturday.

Another highlight was presentation of the 2024 “Westport Prize for Literature” to to Alejandro Puyana for his debut novel, “Freedom is a Feast.”

The novel chronicles a Venezuelan writer’s multi-generational saga of love and revolution in his homeland.

A series of author panel discussions, writing workshops, podcasts and storytelling on a broad range of topics took place throughout the rest of Saturday.
