WESTPORT — Authors of a new book exploring how victims of domestic abuse are treated by the legal system will speak at an Oct. 8 hosted by the Westport Domestic Violence Task Force.

The program, featuring authors of the book, “FRAMED: Women in the Family Court Underworld,” will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road.

The event, planned in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, is co-sponsored by Rock the Walls, a resource hub for victims and survivors of domestic abuse.

The book, co-authored by Dr. Christine M. Cocchiola and Amy Polacko, chronicles the experiences of 22 women around the world and details “the ‘playbook’ abusers use during courtship, marriage and divorce. Their talk will focus on red flags to look for in relationships, what is coercive control, the crisis in our family courts and how to protect yourself,” according to the program announcement.

Cocchiola, a therapist who is expert in issues of coercive control, and Polacko, a divorce coach and journalist, will be joined in the discussion by Wendy Levy, a forensic psychologist and courtroom witness expert who performs evaluations related to domestic-violence and sexual-assault cases.
