WESTPORT–Four of Broadway’s Newsies, including Westport native Adam Kaplan, are coming to Coleytown Middle School next month to perform a concert that will raise funds for the school’s theater company, which will present its own production of the musical in March.

The Broadway cast members will perform with a live band at the show, called “Carrying the Banner,” at 7 p.m. Feb. 2. The school is at 255 North Ave.

The concert will be presented by Coleytown director Ben Frimmer, a Tony-nominated Broadway producer. An evening of songs from Newsies and other Broadway shows, the show is designed to complement the Coleytown students’ production coming up March 27-29.

On Broadway, Kaplan played the show’s lead, John Kelly, and in the ensemble from 2016-2018. The other Broadway cast members scheduled to join the concert are Andrew Keenan-Bolger, who played Crutchie from 2012-2013; Ben Fankhauser, who originated the role of Davy from 2012-2014; and Liana Hunt who took over the role of Katherine Plumber in 2014.

Based on the actual Newsboys Strike of 1899, Newsies tells the story of young newspaper sellers’ battle with major publishers to protest unfair pay.
