WESTPORT — “Maytag Virgin,” a romantic comedy, is the Aug. 21 “Script in Hand” play-reading presentation at the Westport Country Playhouse.

The play, written and directed by Audrey Cefaly, will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at the playhouse, 25 Powers Court.

“Maytag Virgin,” according to playhouse publicity, “brims with witty, Southern charm and poignant observations about the need for second chances and the courage it takes to move forward with an open heart.”

The two-person cast includes Jeffrey Binder and Carolyn Messina.

Binder, an actor, playwright and director, has performed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally and London’s West End, as well as on television and in film, according to the playhouse.

Messina is “chief collaborator/dramaturg” for many of Cefaly’s plays, including “Maytag Virgin,” and has acted in several others, the playhouse says.

Cefaly’s “Maytag Virgin” was voted “Best Comedy” in Atlanta by artsATL.com in 2018, and among her other works, the play “Alabaster” was nominated in 2020 for a Pulitzer Prize in drama.
