WESTPORT — A New York man has been charged with stealing a resident’s identity to alter and fraudulently cash a check.
Henry Francisco-Licona, 27, of New York City, N.Y., was charged Aug. 3 with first-degree identity theft, illegal possession of personal information and illegal trafficking in personal information.
Francisco-Licona’s arrest came after a police investigation was launched last Oct. 4 into a resident’s complaint alleging that a check had been illegally altered and then cashed.
During the course of the investigation, police learned that Francisco-Licona had been arrested last September for similar offenses in Wilton.
After reviewing data on Francisco-Licona’s laptop and cellphones that were seized during the Wilton investigation, local detectives found information pertaining to the Westport case, according to the report.
A warrant was issued for Francisco-Licona’s arrest and he was taken into custody Aug. 3 by Westport detectives at the Westchester Correctional Center in New York.
Francisco-Licona was transported to Police Department headquarters, where he was formally charged. He posted $75,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 21 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
