WESTPORT — “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical,” a mix of myth, music and a bit of mischief, takes the stage March 31-April 2 at Coleytown Middle School.

The Coleytown Company’s production will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, March 31; 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 1, and 1 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at the school, 255 North Ave.

Tickets, on sale now, can be reserved online by clicking here.

The musical, based on the best-selling “Percy Jackson” book by Rick Riordan, explores themes of friendship, betrayal, self-discovery and parent-child relationships — complicated by the fact that these parents are immortal and endowed with super powers.

Or, as a publicity announcement for the show sums up the narrative: “Middle school poses enough challenges for the average kid, but when Percy’s math teacher turns into a winged Fury and attacks him during a field trip, and his best friend turns out to have hooves, Percy is convinced that life is a journey through the Land of Unfair.”

And, by the way, Percy also learns that Poseidon is his father.

The Coleytown “Percy Jackson” production has been “re-imagined” from the Broadway staging by director Ben Frimmer and designer Jordan Janota, according to the publicity release.

The story is now framed as a touring rock concert, which according to Janota, is designed “to create a neutral space for Percy’s journey. The rock concert doesn’t have to be connected to the plot.”

Cast for “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” includes: Denver Razza as Percy, Lyla McEntee as Annabeth, Joey Vazquez as Grover, Chanze Freemon as Mrs. Dodds, Lilliana Veloso as Clarisse and Ellie Arber as Charon.

Among the professionals working on the production, in addition to Frimmer and Janota, are vocal director Clay Zambo, costume designer Robin Mazzola, and Alicia D’Anna, who works with the student Tech Crew that builds the show’s sets.
