FAIRFIELD — The Staples boys soccer team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 shutout at Fairfield Ludlowe Wednesday night.
Reese Watkins, Caleb Tobias and Matthew Jordan scored for the Wreckers, with assists from Dylan Hoke, Bruno Guiduli and Jack Foster.
Their 10-1-4 record earns Staples the third seed in the FCIAC playoffs. The quarterfinals begin Friday at Wakeman Field (3 p.m. kickoff), against Fairfield Warde. The Wreckers came from behind to defeat the Mustangs 2-1 in their regular season match.
Staples’ 10 wins is their most in a regular season since 2011. Their one loss is the least in the regular season since 2008.
“We’re ready to begin our ‘second season,’” says head coach Dan Woog. “We’ve got balanced scoring, strong defense and great team chemistry. The job is to keep it going, one game at a time. This is the best time of year, for sure.”
