Norwalk–In a season loaded with blowouts, the latest — a 70-23 trouncing of host Norwalk on Tuesday — was only the Staples girls basketball team’s second most decisive among their several blowouts en route to a 6-0 start. Don’t forget about the 86-25 season-opening message-sender against Cheshire.

Aside from a 10-point win over Amity of Woodbridge each game has been a 20-plus point differential.

In the Norwalk game, Staples opened up a 25-5 lead after one quarter and 44-7 advantage at halftime. It was 66-11 through three periods.

When all was said and done 11 Wreckers registered points.

Addie Talbott scored 12, had three assists, grabbed five rebounds and came away with six of her team’s 18 steals.

Freya Harvey also scored a dozen to go along with five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Chloe Smith scored 11, had seven rebounds and three steals. Sadie Katzner scored 10 and had five rebounds.

Lopsided wins make for a nice breather and all but the way the Wreckers have been rolling with ease they could probably use some tests as a reminder it won’t be so easy come playoff time.

And it begins with the toughest two tests back to back as 7-0 non-conference foe Torrington visits Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and FCIAC rival Stamford (8-0) comes to the Wreckers’ court Friday for a 7 p.m. tip.

The season is well underway but, for all intents and purposes, it is really about to get going for the Wreckers.
