Field hockey team blanks Conard, will face Ludlowe next

WESTPORT — A trio of goals in each of the first two quarters jumpstarted the No. 1 Staples field hockey team which cruised to an 8-0 win over visiting and No. 9 Conard of West Hartford in Friday’s Class L State Tournament quarterfinal.

With the win the Wreckers will square off with FCIAC foe Fairfield Ludlowe, the No. 4 seed, in the Tuesday, Nov. 11 semis. The game will take place at neutral site Brien McMahon at 4 p.m.

In the Conard game, Oakley Wilson had two goals, Katie and Leah Larit each scored, and Audrey Ziegler, Mary Stevens, Teya Ozgen and Ava Pattinson also found the net.

Pattinson, Leah Larit, Eve Dolan and Wilson all had assists.
