WESTPORT — Westport police officers assisted state police in stopping a man suspected in a Norwalk stabbing on Interstate 95 Friday evening.
Norwalk police said their combined dispatch center received a report about 3 p.m. Friday of a man stabbed near 129 South Main St.
Officers arrived within a minute, police said, and found the victim being treated by a bystander. They rendered assistance and the victim was taken to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said they secured the crime scene and canvased for witnesses.
“Detectives recovered multiple items of evidentiary value, interviewed witnesses and reviewed video surveillance,” Norwalk police said. “As a result, detectives were able to identify Gregory Goldstein as the person responsible for the stabbing.”
Goldstein was said to have left the scene in a Honda Odyssey minivan.
That information was shared with police agencies in the region and at 7:35 p.m., a state trooper from Troop G in Bridgeport spotted the minivan and began to follow it, Norwalk police said.
The trooper called for assistance and Westport officers helped pull the vehicle over on Interstate 95. Goldstein was a passenger.
Norwalk patrol officers and detectives arrived and took Goldstein into custody.
Goldstein, 26, of 16 Donna Drive Apt. 39 in Norwalk, was charged with first-degree assault, a felony, and second-degree breach of peace, a misdemeanor.
He was being held on $500,000 bond and is to appear in court May 9.
