WESTPORT — A Norwalk man who police said was driving at “a high rate of speed” and ignored two stop signs on Greens Farms Road was arrested earlier this week.
Justin Saunders, 38, was charged Aug. 8 with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and two counts of failure to obey a stop sign.
The incident unfolded about 9:30 p.m. Aug. 8 when an officer on routine patrol on Greens Farms Road spotted a speeding car that failed to stop at two stop signs, according to the police report.
After the officer pulled over the vehicle, the driver — identified as Saunders — appeared to be “exhibiting signs of possible intoxication,” the report states.
The officer detected an alcoholic odor coming from Saunders, who allegedly “had difficulty understanding the simple questions” that he was asked, police said.
Saunders then was asked to take a field sobriety test, but failed to complete the test to standard, police said.
He was placed under arrest at the scene and formally charged.
Saunders later was released after posting $500 bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 18 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
