WESTPORT — Two police detectives shared honors as “Officers of the Year” at the Police Department’s recent awards program.
Detectives Ashley Delvecchio and Marc Heinmiller were co-recipients of the the 2021 Officer of the Year Award for “their consistent and innate ability to solve investigative cases,” according to a press statement about the Nov. 4 honors ceremony.
“I congratulate and remind all Westport officers that their hard work does not go unnoticed,” Police Chief Foti Koskinas told the gathering.
Other honorees included:
- Civilians Tucker Peters, for saving a friend from drowning after their boat tipped over last summer, and Jose Rodriguez, who helped a woman climb to safety after falling onto the train tracks during peak travel hours.
- Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Cohen and Firefighter Michael Durette, who assisted police officers in locating a dangerous felon.
- Forty police officers received awards — multiple citations, in some cases — for “competence and success” responding to a variety of incidents involving armed and barricaded subjects, mental illness, and complex, time-consuming investigations, according to the statement.
