WESTPORT — A 21-year-old man, accused of an armed carjacking in Bridgeport last September, faces additional charges after police said Westport residents’ checks were found in the stolen vehicle when it crashed while trying to flee from police in Wilton.
Elijah Holloman, of Bridgeport, was charged Jan. 8 by Westport police with third-degree identity theft, illegal possession of personal identification information, conspiracy to commit third-degree identity theft and conspiracy to commit illegal possession of personal identification information.
The local charges stem from the armed carjacking of a car in Bridgeport last Sept. 26, police said.
That stolen car was recovered Oct. 3 in Wilton after crashing into a police officer as two suspects tried to evade being taken into custody.
After initially fleeing from the disabled car, the suspects — identified as Elijah Holloman and Dominque Reid, 26 — were later located and charged with the carjacking as well as possession of stolen checks found in the vehicle, according to the report.
During their subsequent investigation into the incident, Bridgeport police on Oct. 14 notified Westport authorities that some of the checks found in the vehicle apparently had been stolen from residents of Westport and other communities.
The Westport charges against Holloman were filed Jan. 8, and he was held on $75,000 bond for arraignment later that day at state Superior Court in Stamford.
Westport police said a warrant for Reid’s arrest on the same charges also was issued.
