The single-vehicle accident, on a local stretch of the highway near southbound Exit 18, was reported shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, according to the report by Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows.
Firefighters, along with state and local police, were dispatched to the scene where an occupant was trapped in the mangled car. Fire crews sent to the scene included Engines 5 and 4, Rescue truck 3 and the shift commander.
After arriving, firefighters stabilized the car and using battery-operated tools cut off the vehicle’s roof to free the trapped occupant in less than 10 minutes, according to the report.
