WESTPORT — The study of asteroids in Westport skies will be the topic of a Jan. 21 lecture hosted by the Westport Astronomical Society.
Kevin Green, who teaches physics at the University of New Haven, will present a lecture, “Asteroid Occulations,” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the society’s headquarters classroom, 182 Bayberry Lane.
The free lecture, open to the public, also be live-streamed on YouTube and as a webinar on Zoom.
Green, also a astronomical society board member, will discuss the ongoing work of observing asteroids at the WAS observatory and other area sites. The program also will include short presentations from his team of young observers.
Green earned Ph.D. from the University of Utah, with a dissertation on the highest-known energy cosmic rays. After positions at the University of Michigan and University of Chicago, he transitioned from academia to work in the energy sector for15 years.
Currently, besides his position on the University of New Haven faculty, he is spearheading observations of asteroid occultations locally as well as at UNH and other locations.
