WESTPORT — A Bristol woman is the latest person charged with shoplifting thefts that continue to plague the Ulta Beauty store on Post Road East.
Cardia Powell, 32, was charged with third-degree larceny in connection with the Jan. 19 incident.
Because of repeated shoplifting incidents at Ulta Beauty — earlier thefts have been valued in the thousands of dollars — police said the store’s management has begun attaching GPS tracking equipment to merchandise. A New York man was charged with larceny last month after he was linked to shoplifting at the store by a tracking device.
In the latest shoplifting arrest, police were called to the store at 1365 Post Road East on Jan. 20 to investigate a theft the previous day.
Police were told by store employees they believed the suspect was Powell because she allegedly was involved “in numerous thefts from the business,” according to the report. In response, Ulta Beauty’s corporate offices had issued a warning about Powell to its stores, police said.
After reviewing video surveillance footage, investigators identified Powell and a male accomplice placing merchandise in a bag and leaving the store without paying, police said.
A warrant for Powell’s arrest was issued and she was charged April 9. She posted $25,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned April 12 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
