WESTPORT — Another out-of-town suspect has been charged with stealing merchandise from the local Ulta Beauty store.
Jefferson Reyes-Castro, 25, of New York City, N.Y., was charged April 30 with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.
The Post Road East store has been a frequent target for shoplifters from elsewhere in the tri-state region during the last several years, who sometimes are accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. The arrest of a man from Brooklyn, N.Y., last month was the most recent arrest prior to Reyes-Castro.
Charges against Reyes-Castro are linked to an incident last Feb. 21 when police were called to the store to investigate a report that two suspects had fled with “various items” without paying, according to the report.
Investigators used recordings from the store’s surveillance videos, as well as information shared by other law-enforcement agencies, to identify Reyes-Castro as one of the suspects.
A warrant for his arrest was issued, and he was taken into custody at a Bergen County, N.J., jail where he was being held.
Reyes-Castro was transported to Police Department headquarters, where he was formally charged and released after posting $500 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned May 21 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
Police said more arrests are expected in the case.
