
WESTPORT — A New York man is charged with stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from the local Ulta Beauty store, frequently targeted by out-of-town thieves.
Giorgi Lukhutashvili, 41, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged April 2 with third-degree larceny in connection with the incident.
Staff at Ulta Beauty, 1365 Post Road, alerted police at about 6:45 p.m. April 2 a man had shoplifted about $2,700 in merchandise from the store and fled in a vehicle.
A description of the suspect’s vehicle was provided to police, and he was halted a short time later trying to leave town via the Sherwood Island Connector, according to the report.
Using recordings of video surveillance at the store, police said they were able to confirm Giorgi Lukhutashvili’s identity as the shoplifter.
Lukhutashvili was taken into custody and released after posting $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 30 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
Ulta Beauty has been hit numerous times by shoplifters, some charged with stealing large amounts of valuable merchandise, over the last several years.
