WESTPORT — A pickup traveling on Riverside Avenue collided with a parked car early Sunday, flipping on its side and sending the driver to the hospital.

Police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the two-car crash about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, where a pickup had overturned onto its side after striking a car parked on Riverside Avenue, near Raymond Place.

The driver of the pickup had to be assisted from the flipped vehicle by firefighters, according to a posting on the Fire Department’s page.

The driver, who was headed south on Riverside Avenue at the time of the accident, told police that he had to swerve to avoid striking another car, causing him to hit the parked vehicle.

He was transported to a hospital for treatment of what were described as minor injuries.

The driver was issued tickets for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to drive in the established lane, police said.
