Following is an opinion from Westporter Sydney Hunter.

Having gotten to know Sam Nestor over the past year, I am proud to support Sam in her campaign for CT State Senate. While canvassing with Sam I am always impressed with her knowledge and genuine concern when speaking with residents about the issues facing us all.

Sam has a strong record of achievement on behalf of her constituents. As Weston’s First Selectwoman, Sam acted upon resident concerns by obtaining state grants to offset tax levies and investing in infrastructure, while fighting for families who lost SNAP benefits and other social programs due to federal cuts. Sam pledges to bring her experience to address affordability issues by lowering taxes, reducing healthcare costs, encouraging state funding for schools to reduce the pressure on town budgets, reviewing energy company charges while improving access to clean energy and supporting a permanent Child Tax Credit.

I have attended several sessions of Sam’s Banned Books Book Club which reminds us that in today’s climate we cannot take for granted the right to free speech and expression. Moreover,

Sam is particularly focused on assisting women by championing legislation to ensure equal pay for equal work, and workplace flexibility. She supports Universal Childhood Education, capping costs at 7% for families with income under $100,000, and she is committed to expanding access to affordable quality healthcare. Sam works to keep women safe in our communities by supporting victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. In addition she is a strong advocate for strengthening Connecticut’s common sense safety gun laws to protect our schools and streets.

I am confident that Sam is equipped to achieve affordability without sacrificing the high quality education, home values, beautiful public spaces, and local business success that Fairfield County has always known. I encourage everyone to vote this November 3rd for Sam Nestor.
