WESTPORT — A 35-year-old Westport man has been charged with stalking two women at Compo Beach in August.

Michael Collins faces two counts of third-degree stalking in connection with the incident, police said.

Two women told police that while they were at Compo Beach on the afternoon of Aug. 25 a man in a silver Jeep appeared to be watching them and taking photos as they swam and sunbathed, according to the report.

The women decided to leave the area because the man’s behavior made them feel uncomfortable, police said. But as they walked away the man in the Jeep drove past them “at least eight more times and was purportedly staring at the two,” according to the police release.

One of the women took a photo of the Jeep’s license plate, and gave it to the officer investigating their complaint.

Based on that detail and other information, police said, Collins was identified as the suspect.

A warrant was issued for Collins’ arrest and he turned himself in at Police Department headquarters on Thursday.

He was released after posting a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges next Thursday at Superior Court in Stamford.
