WESTPORT — A Norwalk woman faces charges in connection with the illegal withdrawal of several thousand dollars from a Westport resident’s bank account.
Gail Hamilton, 57, was charged May 13 with first-degree identity theft and first-degree criminal attempt at identity theft.
Police received a complaint from a Westport woman in August 2020 that funds totaling several thousand dollars were illegally withdrawn from a bank account she shared with her daughter.
The detective assigned to investigate the case determined the illegal withdrawals were made at two Key Bank offices — one in West Haven and the other in Milford.
Video surveillance footage of a suspect making the withdrawals was obtained, and based on that footage and additional evidence, police said Hamilton was identified as that suspect.
A warrant for Hamilton’s arrest was issued, and she turned herself in at Police Department headquarters on May 13.
She was released on a promise to appear in court on the charges, and is scheduled to be arraigned June 3 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
