WESTPORT — A blaze scorched the exterior of a home at 155B Compo Road South on Thursday afternoon, but fire crews stopped the flames from spreading inside, according to a Fire Department report.
The house fire, reported at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, prompted the dispatch to the scene of four fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue vehicle and the shift commander, fire officials said.
Firefighters on Engine 4, first to arrive on the scene, reported a fire was burning on the dwelling’s exterior, extending from the electrical service drop.

Residents had evacuated the house safely by the time fire crews arrived, and following a survey of the interior, firefighters found the fire had not spread indoors, according to the report.
Dry chemical extinguishers were used by firefighters to extinguish the electrical fire on the building’s exterior. A representative from the power utility Eversource shut off electric service to the home.
No injuries were reported.
Fire officials are reminding property owners not to use water to try to douse an electrical fire because water conducts electricity, which could cause electrocution.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the town Fire Marshal’s Office.
Local firefighters responding to the incident were assisted by fire crews from Fairfield, Norwalk and Wilton, which covered local stations and responded to other emergencies.
