Bruce Charles Beatty

Following is the obituary for BRUCE CHARLES BEATTY, submitted by his family.

____________________________

Born in New York, N.Y., on April 23, 1954, to Howard and Carmela Beatty, Bruce Charles Beatty passed away on Nov. 17, 2023, while holding hands with his wife and best friend, Amy.

A season pass in a Vermont ski house, and a very lucky roommate assignment, led to a romance for the ages. Married to Amelia Maxton on Maui in 1988, the couple was the truest example of love — bringing out the best and brightest in each other.

Not only did they love traveling together, seeking out unique experiences, and savoring meals at new restaurants; those closest to Bruce and Amy knew that they also loved hosting dinner parties and picnicking at Compo Beach in their hometown of Westport. Bruce, in particular, relished his role as Grillmaster with his sons as eager assistants; baking his mom’s Christmas cookies or the fan-favorite Pecan Tassies; whipping up crab cakes, homemade pasta, fajitas, fresh pizzas, and most famously: the “Bruce Beatty Margarita.”

Bruce is survived by his wife, Amy; sons, Brian and Kyle; grandson, Jack, and sister, Lorraine.

Bruce lived for his family — especially his little buddy Jack. Anytime Bruce was found with an iPad he would be grinning at the latest updates from the Adventures of Baby Jack, or occasionally reading a tech news article he would share with his two boys. Bruce and Amy cherished each other and their growing family more than words can say.

Bruce was always so proud of everyone around him. Whether it was a quality shot from one of his golf buddies, hearing about his boys’ latest accomplishments, or seeing his grandson’s first steps, Bruce was invariably the first to offer an “Awesome!!”

With the most expressive face, Bruce was the best person in the world to share good news with. He always celebrated the successes of those around him, no matter how great or small.

Raised on Long Island, Bruce was a Mets fan to the very end. He grew up listening to their games on the radio with his dad, attending at Shea Stadium and Citi Field when he could, and eventually passing down the legacy to his sons, whose fondest memories are of sharing those moments with their dad.

Bruce and Amy fell in love while skiing, and took so much joy in sharing that love with Brian and Kyle. They spent countless winters in Killington, Vt., followed by many memorable trips out West. Bruce’s favorite of these was when Kyle and Brian gifted him a heliskiing adventure in Whistler, B.C., where they all spent the day together floating through waist-deep powder.

Following a decade as a hobbyist, in his retirement Bruce spent several mornings each week with his golf buddies at his home course of Longshore, snacking on desserts Amy sent with him and trying to recreate his crowning achievement: his hole-in-one on Hole 13 on his 61st birthday, with friends and both of his kids there to bear witness.

He was lovely. Heartful. Strong. True. We hope he knows how proud we all are of him, and that we will never stop celebrating our successes with him.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Carmela; his sister, Arlene, and brother-in-law, Edward Baumbach.
