WESTPORT — Danielle Dobin was unanimously re-elected chairwoman of the Planning and Zoning Commission by a congenial, bipartisan vote Thursday night.

The session of the seven-member commission was live-streamed.

Dobin, a Democrat, was elected to a new P&Z term in November’s municipal election with the highest vote total of any candidate on the ballot. Dobin and her two running mates were also endorsed by the Save Westport Now party.

She was nominated to serve as chairwoman again by fellow Democrat Neil Cohn, who described her as “brilliant,” hard-working and collaborative. He added that she tries to consider the interests of “all the people and all the businesses” in Westport when leading the panel in its decision-making.

Paul Lebowitz, a Democrat, was chosen as vice chairman, and newly re-elected Democrat Michael Cammeyer was named the secretary. Both votes were unanimous.

Commission considers changing meeting day

The commission also discussed a proposal to move its twice-monthly meetings from the usual Thursday nights to Mondays.

The panel members, who delayed a formal decision Thursday, showed a strong consensus for making the change. They also generally favored moving back the start time of meetings to 7 p.m. During the pandemic era of online sessions, the P&Z meetings have begun at 6 p.m.

The commission held off on making a final decision on its regular meeting day and time schedule — and whether it should take effect in February or March — until its next meeting Dec. 16.
