WESTPORT — Applications are being accepted for the 2023 Neighborhood Assistance Act tax-credit program, offering state tax relief to businesses that make cash donations to programs run by municipal and tax-exempt groups.

The annual program is available through the state Department of Revenue Services.

Under the NAA program, businesses can be eligible for a state tax credit if they make cash contributions to qualified community programs managed by tax-exempt or municipal agencies, according to an announcement by Elaine Daignault, the director of the town’s Department of Human Services.

Types of community programs that qualify for the NAA tax-credit program include energy conservation, employment and job training, child-care services, programs serving low-income persons, open space acquisition, crime-prevention programs and affordable housing development, among others.

The minimum contribution that qualifies for a tax credit is $250 and the maximum contribution that any nonprofit or municipal entity can receive is $150,000. No town funds are involved in the program, Daignault said.
