WESTPORT — The dog days of summer are coming, so the dog days of winter are ending — at least on Westport beaches.
Dogs and, for that matter, animals of every sort, are banned from Compo, Old Mill and Burying Hill beaches as of Saturday, April 1, according to the annual reminder from the Parks and Recreation Department.
The prohibition, which runs until Oct. 1, includes animals left in vehicles.
Vehicles entering beach parking lots will be required to display 2023 emblems as of May 1.
Animals also are not permitted year-round on municipal playing fields.
However, dogs are welcome at Winslow Park throughout the year, in compliance with the town’s regulations.
