WESTPORT–Westport Farmers Market (WFM) has started its third season of a garden donation program in partnership with Food Rescue US – Fairfield County and Homes with Hope, now with a new name and identity: Sprout & Share.

Launching on Thursday, June 28, Sprout & Share builds on the success of the former Grow-a-Row program, which has inspired local gardeners to turn backyard abundance into community impact. The new name reflects the heart of the initiative — encouraging residents to grow a little extra and share the harvest with neighbors facing food insecurity.

Each Thursday throughout the growing season, home gardeners are invited to bring freshly harvested fruits, vegetables, and herbs to the Sprout & Share collection station at the Westport Farmers Market. Donations will be collected and delivered by Food Rescue US – Fairfield County volunteers to the Gillespie Center of Homes with Hope, ensuring fresh, locally grown produce reaches people across Fairfield County.

“Sprout & Share captures the spirit of what WFM programs are all about,” said Haley Schulman, market manager. “It’s a simple idea with a powerful impact. Whether you have one tomato plant or a thriving vegetable garden, everyone can play a role in helping provide fresh, nutritious food to our community.”

Since its launch, the program has connected local home growers with a direct, accessible way to support hunger relief efforts while reducing food waste.

The 2026 season promises renewed energy with the introduction of the Sprout & Share brand, designed to inspire even more gardeners to participate. Organizers encourage seasoned growers and first-time gardeners alike to set aside a portion of their harvest for weekly donation.

Donations can be dropped off every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westport Farmers Market, 50 Imperial Ave.
