WESTPORT – Westport Museum for History & Culture is inviting current and former Fairfield County residents to participate in its ongoing oral history project. The museum is particularly seeking stories from individuals and communities whose experiences have been historically underrepresented, including LGBTQ+ residents, people of color, immigrants, and others.
For more than 50 years, the museum, located at 25 Avery Place, has collected oral histories from community members, preserving firsthand accounts that provide insight into the lives, experiences, and events that have shaped the region. These interviews inform museum exhibitions, educational programs and research.
Oral histories are conducted by a team of public historians trained in interviewing and historical documentation. Appointments are available Thursday through Saturday through November 2027.
Interested participants can schedule an oral history interview by visiting here or by emailing museumassociate@westporthistory.org.
By preserving personal stories, the museum advances its mission to “make history whole,” ensuring that future historians have access to a broader, more representative record of life in Fairfield County.
