WESTPORT — The annual plant sale sponsored by the Westport Garden Club springs to life Saturday on Jesup Green.

The event, featuring a bumper crop of more than 1,200 perennial plants, is planned from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10, on the green in front of the Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road. The sale will take place rain or shine.

Sale highlights, in addition to a selection of perennials from club members’ gardens, will include plants native to Connecticut, tomatoes and, new this year, a collection of unique Clematis.

Also on offer will be decorative containers, gifts for Mother’s Day, baked goods, gardening tools and more.

Garden club members will be on hand to provide advice about the plants on sale and cultivating gardens. Information also will be available about Westport’s pollinator pathway project.

Earthplace will staff a table with nature-inspired activities for children; Westport Book Shop will offer a variety of garden-related books, and Edgewise will provide tool-sharpening services. Sustainable Westport members will provide information about environmental issues, and garden club members will help clean gallon- and larger-size black plastic pots brought to the green so they can be reused.

Proceeds from the sale support Westport Garden Club civic projects, which include helping maintain local public gardens, educational programs and grants to environmental nonprofits.
