WESTPORT — A blast of Arctic air, whipping through the region on gusts of icy wind, has prompted officials to open local warming centers as the state’s “cold weather protocol” has been activated for the second time in two weeks.
With daytime high temperatures forecast to stay below the freezing mark over the next few days, and plunging to single digits overnight, Gov. Ned Lamont has activated a statewide response through noon Thursday.
People looking for assistance or emergency accommodations should call “211” or check Connecticut’s 211 website that provides a list of resources, such as transportation to a shelter or warming center.
In Westport, people who need assistance also can contact the town’s Department of Human Services at 203-341-1050 during regular office hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
