“King in the Wilderness,” an 2018 film that won an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Historical Documentary,” follows King from the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965 to his assassination in April 1968. The film includes never-before-seen footage of interviews with those closest to King interspersed with historical archives, according to publicity for the program.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Peter Kunhardt, one of the documentary’s producers is Trey Ellis, a Westport-based playwright.
