WESTPORT — When it comes to safety, crews from the Department of Public Works don’t beat around the bush.

They cut them down.

At least that’s what happened this week according to photo evidence submitted by Sheri Gordon.

And that’s a good thing, Gordon adds in a note accompanying the photo she sent to Westport Journal, which shows crews trimming back overgrown vegetation at the corner of Compo Road South and Soundview Drive, where they join with Hillspoint Road.

A “before photo,” as recorded by Google Street View, shows a tangle of overgrowth obscuring sight lines at the intersection.

“A reminder to people who live in areas with lots of foot traffic [like the beach] that they need to coordinate with the Department of Public Works to ensure that their bushes are not impacting the safety of all Westporters,” Gordon wrote.

That consideration, she adds, includes the safety of drivers, walkers and “our four-legged friends.”
