WESTPORT — A slice from the “Slice” can help do a whole lot of good … and food.

A $5,000 donation from this year’s “Slice of Saugatuck” proceeds was made by the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce to Homes with Hope.

The September event, organized by the chamber for a tenth year, attracted several thousand people to celebrate culinary and commercial fare of the neighborhood.

With the latest “Slice” donation to Homes with Hope, which allocated the money to its Gillespie Center food pantry, more than $40,000 has been raised for the nonprofit from the festival’s proceeds over a decade, according to an announcement from the chamber.

Slice of Saugatuck “is all about food. Food for those who can afford it and now food for those who can’t,” Matthew Mandell, the chamber’s executive director, said in the announcement.

Helen McAlinden, executive director of Homes with Hope, expressed gratitude for the donation, and said, “This donation will support the increasing number of people that come to our doors in need of support.”
