WESTPORT — The town has organized its annual “Shred Day” on Saturday, a chance to dispose of unwanted or outdated personal, financial and other confidential records.

The 13th annual program is set from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Greens Farms Railroad Station, 2 Post Office Lane.

It is limited to Westport residents, who will be asked to present proof of residency to dispose of records.

Each car will be charged $10.

Residents can shred up to eight paper bags or three boxes (12 by 18 inches) per household.

Personal documents “such as bank statements, canceled checks, credit card statements, tax records and medical records” will be shredded “on site,” according to an announcement from First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker.

Shred Day helps “ensure protection against identity theft as well as an opportunity to clean file cabinets of unneeded paper,” Tooker said.
