WESTPORT — A public screening of a documentary chronicling the 40-year legacy of Westport agencies tackling issues of homelessness and hunger is scheduled June 9.

The film, “Building Hope: 40 Years of Suburban Community Support for the Homeless,” will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Christ & Holy Trinity Church’s Branson Hall, 75 Church Lane. The free event is open to the public.

“Building Hope” traces the evolution of the Interfaith Housing Association, established in 1984 by local clergy, into today’s Homes with Hope, a multi-faceted nonprofit that provides shelter, food and support services to people in need.

During the program, the family of James F. Gillespie will be recognized for the instrumental role he played in establishing the Interfaith Housing Association. The Gillespie Center shelter, now undergoing renovations, is named in his honor. Gillespie, a clinical psychologist, was killed in 1988 when struck by a car in France.
