WESTPORT — A 30-year-old Bridgeport man faces charges in connection with the daylight smash-and-grab robbery at a downtown jewelry store May 9.
Javon Thorbourne was arrested Wednesday on charges of first-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief.
Two masked men entered the Lux Bond & Green jewelry store, 136 Main St., shortly after 3 p.m May 9, and using hammers, smashed display cases to scoop up merchandise before fleeing to a car waiting on Elm Street, police said. Store employees were uninjured during the incident.
The black BMW getaway car was later seen heading east on the Post Road toward Fairfield.

Thorbourne was identified by police after an intense investigation by Westport detectives, who coordinated their probe with U.S. marshals and other area law-enforcement agencies.
He was arrested Wednesday at state Superior Court in Stamford, where he was appearing on charges filed by other jurisdictions. His bond was set at $250,000.
Additional arrests are expected in the case, police said.
“When people come into Westport with criminal activity as their intent, we will work tirelessly until arrests are made,” Police Chief Foti Koskinas said in a statement announcing Thorbourne’s arrest.

He probably needed the money. Lux can afford it. That’s what insurance is for. No one was hurt.
