WESTPORT — An American-Islamic group has joined in condemning the propaganda stickers posted by a white-supremacist, neo-fascist group on public property in Westport.

The stickers promoting the Patriot Front were found plastered on local and state signs in the Saugatuck area Wednesday.

The Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, in a statement Friday, denounced “the spreading of this hate propaganda and stand in solidarity with the community in Westport.”

“Communities in our state and nationwide will not be intimidated by the falsehoods of white supremacists,” Farhan Memon, the council chairman, said in the statement.

The Patriot Front is classified by both the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center as a group that promotes a whites-only ideology for America.

According to the ADL, the Patriot Front “spreads its hateful propaganda via the internet and by distributing banners, fliers, posters and stickers.” 

Since 2019, the ADL adds, the group is responsible for the “vast majority” of white-supremacist propaganda distributed in the U.S.

CAIR-CT joins with “all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy and all other forms of bigotry,” the group’s statement said.

The Patriot Front propaganda is the latest incident of hate graffiti to deface public property in Westport since the start of the year.

Other incidents include vandalism on the Riverwalk, infrastructure near the state’s Saugatuck boat launch and a portable toilet at Compo Beach. 

Police are investigating the reports.
