WESTPORT — A large volume of literature lovers turned out Friday for the start of the Westport Library’s four-day Fall Book Sale.
They browsed through thousands “gently used” books on what seemed like every subject possible, along with collections of records, DVDs, CDs, framed artwork and puzzles.
The sale continues through Monday on the following schedule: Saturday, Nov. 2: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 3: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. — Most offerings available at half-price, and Monday, Nov. 4: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. — Shoppers can fill a library logo bag for $10 per bag; their own equivalent-sized bag for $8, or buy individual books at half-price.

Jocelyn Barandiaran, president of the nonprofit Westport Book Sales, which organizes the sale, said, “The community loves these sales.
“We are so privileged that people choose to donate their books to us, and we are just as happy to give them back,” she added.
Shelves holding thousands of books were in every aisle and corner of the Trefz Forum, neatly separated by section and, then, by subsection. Fiction and nonfiction books are available in more than 50 categories, ranging from science to cooking to biographies to religion. Readers of all ages were browsing through books Friday, from toddlers to elders. There was truly something for everyone.
“This is nice, this space is so great,” said Judy Auber Jahnel. “It’s nice that [the library] can actually do this.
The library had digital materials for sale as well. While not as abundant as the books, DVDs, records and CDs kept customers busy looking at music from Taylor Swift, Tom Petty and Celine Dion, and movies including “Titanic,” “Toy Story” and “Lord of the Rings.”
Down a short hallway in the Komansky Family Program Room is the children’s section, complete with youth favorites such as “The Magic Tree House” series, “Charlotte’s Web,” “Wonder” and a large collection of Roald Dahl’s books.
“I go to all library book sales; this one is my favorite one,” said Steven Stark, who made the short trip from Fairfield. “Sometimes I buy stuff to read, sometimes I buy it to resell it,” he said.
