WESTPORT — The Staples High football clobbered visiting Danbury 41-7 in Friday’s Senior Night game.

The Wreckers successfully balanced all phases of their attack — offense, defense and special teams — in the home field victory.

With the win, the Wreckers improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in FCIAC play. It marked the third time Staples has surpassed 40 points in a contest this fall.

Quarterback Nick Weil completed 14 of 25 pass attempts for 176 yards and four touchdowns.

Nate Smith had six catches for 67 yards and a pair of TDs. Shane Sandrew had five receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Davis Crandall caught a 16-yard TD pass, his first touchdown on a screen pass.

Anthony Armentano led the ground attack, rushing nine times for 71 yards and two scores.

Weil continued to show his dual-threat prowess with five carries for 44 more yards.

Charley Leahy and Crandall had great defensive games with Leahy blocking a punt.
