WESTPORT–A Philadelphia woman is due in court next week to face charges that she and a male partner swiped a wallet from a shopper at Home Goods in Westport several years ago and quickly made $777.38 in purchases on the shopper’s card, police said.

The alleged victim reported on Feb. 13, 2023, that while shopping in the store at 1850 Post Road East, she was approached by a woman and a man. The woman made conversation with her while the man moved out of her sight.

“Immediately after the pair walked away, the victim noticed that her wallet was missing from her purse, which had been left in her shopping cart,” police said in an announcement of the arrest.

The alleged victim cancelled her credit card, but learned that it had quickly been used to make four purchases from nearby stores, two of which were successful, police said.

An investigation led to Tefla Wills, now 59, as the woman in the pair, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On Sept. 16, Wills reported to the Westport Police Department in connection with the warrant, police said.

She was charged with fifth-degree larceny, fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, charging more than $500 on a revoked payment card, conspiracy to commit charging greater than $500 on a revoked payment card, second-degree identity theft and second-degree conspiracy to commit identity theft, police said. She was released on $10,000 bond and is due in Superior Court in Stamford on Wednesday, according to police.
