WESTPORT — Local flooding remains a threat Wednesday as a wet, windy storm that buffeted the region overnight pulls away, leaving a handful of local power outages in its wake.
A “Coastal Flood Advisory” remains in effect for southwestern Connecticut through noontime Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, with the highest likelihood of flooding around the 10 a.m. high tide.
Gusty winds, clocked at 20 to 30 mph, may be felt throughout Wednesday until about 8 p.m., the weather service predicts.
As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, Eversource was reporting only a handful of Westporters — 13 — had no electric service, down from 43 local outages earlier in the morning. A total of 2,865 outages were reported statewide at that hour, according to the power company.
The “major coastal storm,” as the NWS labeled it, began moving across the region Tuesday afternoon.
The strongest wind gusts registered between 45 and 60 mph late Tuesday, according to data reported by NWS weather spotters around the region.
Nearly an inch of rainfall had been recorded in Westport just before 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to the latest information available from the NWS. That, however, was before several more hours of often-intense precipitation fell overnight.
Skies are expected to gradually clear Wednesday, becoming partly sunny by late afternoon, as temperatures rise to a daytime high in the low-50s.
The outlook for Thursday and Friday is for sunny skies and balmy temperatures reaching highs in the 50s, according to the weather service, before rain moves into the region Friday night.
Wet and windy weather is forecast overnight Friday into Saturday, as the nighttime temperature falls to a low in the mid-30s.
Rain also is forecast for Saturday, before easing by afternoon, the NWS says.
Power disruptions can be reported online at Eversource.com or by calling 800-286-2000. Customers who signed up for the power company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
