NEW CANAAN — Sparked by long-range accuracy, the Staples High boys basketball team defeated the host New Canaan Rams, 53-45, Tuesday.

The Wreckers made eight shots from downtown, four by Sam Clachko, who led the way with 22 points.

Caleb Smith scored a pair of 3-pointers and dropped in eight total points.

Adam Udell, with one 3-pointer, and Mason Tobias both added seven points. Charlie Bowman hit one from beyond the arc and contributed five points.

The Wreckers return home at 7 p.m. Friday to host Brien McMahon of Norwalk. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
