WESTPORT — Regulation time was not enough for the host Staples and New Canaan high school girls basketball teams to settle things Tuesday. In the end, the visiting Rams squeaked by the Wreckers with a hard-fought 55-50 overtime victory.

Staples was paced by Sarah VonDohlen with 21 points, including 15 on a handful of 3-pointers.

Ella Harrington scored 10 points, Emma Asiel tallied six and Marley Belzer added five. Chloe Smith and Freya Harvey both hit 3-pointers.

It was a low-scoring game out of the gate with the Rams ahead 5-4 after one quarter of play.

The offenses got going in the second quarter — New Canaan led 18-16 at halftime — and turned it on in the third and fourth quarters.

The game was knotted at 48 apiece after regulation.

Staples hits the road at 5:30 p.m. Friday with a visit to Brien McMahon in Norwalk. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
