WESTPORT — It’s everyone’s nightmare.
This past Saturday evening, Amy Lynch put her wallet in her pocket and walked to dinner with her husband, Rummy. When she got home later that night, her wallet was gone.
She urgently sent out a text to her neighborhood network: “Hi all. Sorry for the late one. Rummy & I walked down to dinner tonite and I can’t seem to find my wallet. Little green Goyard cardholder with initials AZ.
“If anyone spies it, LMK! We walked down Wright to Orchard to Ludlow to KHS & cut thru backfield to Saugatuck school & alongside Riverside.”
A couple of her neighbors planned their Sunday early-morning run along that route, but found nothing.
A little later, however, neighbors received another text from Amy: “Woke up this AM and found the wallet by the front door. Some kind soul found it somewhere out there and returned it to the house.”
There was no note, no expectation for reward or praise.
What the generous stranger does not know is that this is more than just a wallet. “Z” is the initial of Amy’s maiden name. Twenty years ago, before they were married, Rummy bought it for Amy, splurging on the luxury Goyard brand that recently had been introduced to American consumers with its outpost at Bergdorf Goodman.
